Expert opinion on the calculation of capital costs for railway infrastructure

The Bundesnetzagentur has set the capital costs in the German rail infrastructure sector for the regulatory period 2024 to 2028 at 6.4 billion euros. This is 400 million euros less than DB Netz AG, the largest rail infrastructure operator, had estimated. The basis for calculating the future capital costs was a joint report by mobility experts from the IGES Institute and the economic consulting firm Frontier Economics commissioned by the Federal Network Agency.
